The name Shinola comes from the brand of bitumen used to bow shoes during World War II. The company wanted to retake the title to become a brand of accessories such as watches, leather products, newspapers and bicycles made, obviously, in the United States.
The factory is located in downtown Detroit on the fifth floor of the College for Creative Studies University building. From the moment we entered the facilities, it was like taking a tour of a museum and then a chemical laboratory.
In December 2012, Shinola began marketing bicycles, in June 2013 he opened his first boutique in Detroit and in July of that same year he did the same in the Tribeca neighbourhood in New York. Currently, it has a presence in more than 350 points of sale in the United States.
