A Chinese smartphone brand “Huawei” is now offering a 3rd variant of P9 and P9 Plus named as Huawei P9 Lite in Australia with impressive and fully-baked features over its predecessor. The Huawei P9 Lite shares gorgeous chamfered edges and neat & clean lines of its pricier brothers and it is just as slim and sleek. The Shiny all-black aluminum finish has been dropped which is a good thing – we found Huawei P9 rear picked up scuffs and scratches far too easily. In short, if overall look is everything for you than all-around performance, it’s absolutely worth the price of admission.
Huawei P9 Lite Display
The display of P9 Lite is amazingly given the phone’s “Lite” moniker – near identical to Huawei P9. It has the same resolution at 1920 x 1080 and measures the same 5.2-inches corner to corner display – it won’t be surprised anymore to discover it’s the same panel underneath. Technically, it’s quality-oriented display offering sharp images with plenty of impact and peak brightness isn’t bad either. Though it’s not as bright and crisp as Motorola’s Moto G4.
Huawei P9 Lite Camera
A camera is undoubtedly the biggest savings Huawei made in P9 Lite and is part of what gives it its low price. The camera is developed in collaboration with Leica – a dual camera setup for reasons of cost wasn’t used in P9 Lite. Instead, Huawei used a 13MP rear sensor and at first glance – it seems Huawei has reused a camera of Huawei P8 for P9 Lite. An 8MP sensor, on the other hand, sits on its front.
The camera captures sharp and true images under the right lighting conditions. The quality of the images decreases with less light and distortions start to happen. However, you won’t see any problem when you see your smartphone screen on a PC.
Huawei P9 Lite Performance
The brain behind Huawei P9 Lite is HiSilicon Kirin 650 which is coupled with 3GB of RAM. The overall performance is butter smooth. Dipping in and out of multiple apps and browsing the web on Chrome is fluid and generally glitch-free. The P9 Lite comes up top trumps in games performance as well as Benchmark results are decent if not earth-shattering.
Huawei P9 Lite Storage and OS
The Huawei P9 Lite is backed by an average 16GB of onboard memory which is considered enough for those who don’t install an extensive amount of data. But isn’t it a bit scary for those looking for more memory? Of course, not! The onboard memory is expandable further up to 256GB via microSD card (Great!).
Software-wise Huawei P9 is a way behind as it runs on outdated Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system which is upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat. An Oreo 8.0 update would have made it a perfect choice, though.
Huawei P9 Lite Price
The Huawei P9 Lite lands in 2 sensational colours – Silver and Gold – both colours are available at the same price. But how much does it cost? The Huawei Honor P9 Lite Price in Australia starts from AU$225 to AU$230 which is valid in all major Australian cities i.e. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and Adelaide.
Huawei P9 Lite Battery
It is a shame that Huawei P9 Lite’s 3000mAh battery isn’t up to snuff as it lasts over nine hours in continuous video-playback only. It slightly behinds the similarly priced Wileyfox Swift and well-behind Motorola Moto G4’s long-lasting 13 hours 39 minutes. In short, you can expect to have to reach for a charger before going to bed most days.
