Around 2 years back in 2016, Google decided to say goodbye to Nexus family and started launching Pixel smartphones, adopting the line of previous Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C. The Google Pixel 2 XL is a second-generation smartphone which looks to replace our favourite 2016 smartphones. Indeed it’s an exquisite and go-getting flagship smartphone, dishing out an 18:9 aspect ratio display and looking to polish the overall body of previously released devices. October 2017 was an official release month of Google Pixel 2 XL in Australia and started landing on shores immediately after an announcement.

At 6-inches, Pixel 2 XL is the biggest seen on Google-branded smartphones since the Nexus 6. Rather than using one of the gorgeous Super AMOLED Panels from Samsung, Google decided to go with a Plastic OLED or P-OLED from LG. Obviously, LG hasn’t as much experience as Samsung when it comes to making flagship smartphone’s displays. Visualization-wise, the display lacks punch and whites are more often than not tinged blue. However, Razor-sharp pixel density is great for VR, but apparently not as vivid as last year’s model.

The photography got changed entirely after Google released its Pixel and Pixel XL back in 2016. After several years of fighting between Samsung and Apple, Google blew away both of them and regardless of their best doings – Google left them behind and extended that lead. On paper, Google Pixel 2 XL houses 12.2MP rear sensor with additional features such as Optical Image Stabilization, PDAF, Dual LED Flash, Panorama, and HDR. To assist video calls and selfies with your near and dear, Google Pixel 2 XL sports an 8MP sensor.

Google Pixel 2 XL doesn’t participate in the race when it comes to synthetic benchmarks in 2018 as Snapdragon 845 Chipset in Oppo Find X and in Samsung Galaxy S9 is a generation newer as compared to 835 in Google’s smartphones. But the reality is smartphones live or die in their performance and Google Pixel 2 XL performs just superb in everyday use thanks to its 4GB of RAM.

Storage and OS

Google Pixel 2 in terms of storage, lands in 2 different storage tiers. There is a massive 64GB of onboard memory which lets you save loads and loads of files, images, documents, songs even movies with ease. The bad news is Google has never offered a microSD card option and chances are Google will never in the future.

As far as its software factor is concerned, Google Pixel 2 XL runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. Either it’s further upgradable to Android P 9.0 or not, it’s undecided.

As we have already seen, Top-end smartphones prices have risen intensely and Pixel 2 XL is significantly expensive over its predecessor. The Google Pixel 2 XL 64 Price in Australia starts from AU$1099-1139, whereas Google Pixel 2 XL 128GB goes for a whopping AU$1079-1149, making a bit expensive even as compared to much-anticipated flagships released recently by Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi.

The Google Pixel 2 XL is struggling a lot for winning against recently released Oppo’s and Huawei’s flagship smartphones. The Pixel 2 XL is backed by a 3520mAh non-removable battery which can be matched with Talk-Time and Audio Playback of the likes Honor 8 Pro and Redmi Note 5 Pro. A moderate user can easily go through an entire day but a heavy user might need to get it charged before going to bed.
