The Google Home Hub Australia is the first intelligent display which combines a neat and clean Google Wizard, smart home control and a digital photo frame. With the smart displays, Google isn't the first to market. Amazon's Echo Festival put Alexa a year ago on-screen while Harman, Lenovo and LG made Google's Smart Displayed a few months ago. But Google Home Hub is a little different. First, Google does not have the camera to tell you repeatedly in the hope that you will feel more comfortable placing it in places like your bedroom. Of course, there are still a couple of microphones. Secondly, it’s quite smaller as compared to its competitor, designed to merge in your home rather than to make a statement.

Google Home Hub Design:

Google has worked hard for its more recent products, combining plastic with soft-touch material from Google Home Mini to the new Thermostat E Neste (Google-owned company),with a common design language. Not surprisingly, the Google Home Hub has been intended in line with a screen hanging from the foundation of the material. It's a large step up from the initial chunky Echo Show and a little better compared to the 2nd Gen show.

The Google Home Hub looks small with a 7-inch screen and 179 x 118 x 67 mm dimensions. The original Echo Show had the same tall screen but looks massively in comparison with skinny bezels around the screen. There are volume buttons around the back of the screen and a switch which turns the microphone to prevent the Home Hub from listening. You can swipe from the underside of the screen and use the touch controls for noise.

This model has no webcam, and Google decided to first and foremost want privacy by giving people trust to put the Home Hub wherever they wanted. The light sensor automatically turns off the screen during the darkness of the night so that if you use the home hub as an intelligent alarm clock, you won't be disturbed.

Google Home Hub Features:

First of all, the Google Home Hub cannot support email, calendar appointments and Google Photos accounts from a G Suite (pay-for). That's an issue since it launched and you're efficiently penalised if you pay for your Google services. Since the Echo product portfolio is accessible to G Suite accounts, there is no technical limitation, which was artificially introduced by Google.

The current weather and a news headlines list can be seen from the home screen. You can tap one of them to get more data, without your voice having to use it. Scroll the screen and view music and videos that you have suggested on YouTube. You can do anything on screen and swipe the current contents back to the home screen cleverly in a window to switch them back to when you like.

On the Home Hub, Google services work fine. Ask, for example, for directions, and you'll get a map of the route on the screen. Like Google's voice-only products, addresses will also be sent to your phone. Other search findings, including latest football scores, or showing a search by picture, have been formatted for the screen as well.

As Google Search supports the home hub, local businesses and generic questions are much more accurate than Echo devices. Google is also more conversational and does not have to use the same language rigidly as Alexa does.

Services from third parties are available such as updating the status of Tube Line, but you cannot see and set up the lists of capabilities. Google will, instead, ask you if you want to utilise the abilities of a third party to answer a query.

The Home Hub can show images automatically on the lock screen by converting your intelligent display into a digital picture frame if you have a Photos account. Naturally, you can use your voice to view images and albums.

Interestingly, Recipes are integrated with several results for every search given by the Home Hub. In general, the results are also on-site, with better results than the Echo Show from Google.
