Oppo RX17 Pro Review

A month before September, Oppo announced another high-end smartphone named Oppo RX17 Pro in Australia alongside Oppo R17. Both devices are backed by quite a few dazzling features and latest techniques such as an on-screen fingerprint scanner, quality-oriented cameras and a Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Earlier, Oppo RX17 Pro was only available in the home country of China but there is now a change.

The Oppo RX17 Pro is namely launched for Australia, Europe and also in the Netherlands whereas, in China and Asia, it’s known as Oppo R17 Pro which is having a bunch of similarities we’ve already seen in OnePlus 6T. The Oppo RX17 Pro key highlights are related to 6.4-inches AMOLED screen, Android 8.1 Oreo OS, Snapdragon 710 Chipset and Corning Gorilla Glass 6. G8 of massive RAM (similar to Oppo Find X and Galaxy Note 9),triple rear cameras – 12MP + 20MP + TOF 3D Stereo Camera and 3700mAh non-removable battery is also a part of Oppo RX17 Pro.

Release Date and Price

The handset is available on Chinese shelves with a different name Oppo R17 Pro (as mentioned above) whereas Oppo RX17 Pro release date in Australia is yet to be announced. However, we’re expecting it to be landed in Australia before November 2018 is out.

According to some sources, Oppo RX17 Pro will hold its position on shelves in Europe and Netherlands on November 16.

As far as Oppo RX17 Pro Price in Australia is concerned, it’s to be confirmed, to be honest. However, being a premium smartphone alongside gorgeous and biggest screen and massive battery with fast charging, it’s expected to set users back around AU$930.

In this price range, you’ll see so many other options such as ZTE Nubia X which costs AU$672 with better specs and improved features.

Spend a little more and you’ll get a smartphone Apple iPhone XR which goes for a whopping AU$1049 though, but a bright screen, super-fast speed, and high-quality camera.

Oppo RX17 Pro Specs

The handset is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Chipset, a hefty 6GB of RAM, 128GB of onboard memory and Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. Other Oppo RX17 Pro specifications in Australia are listed below.

Oppo RX17 Key Features

From a design point of view – Oppo RX17 Pro is vying for a title of “Flagship Killer”. It’s measuring a gorgeous 6.4-inches screen which covers almost 91.5% of the smartphone – making it around bezel-less devices you can go for – especially at this price.

The screen is well-supported by a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels which means a pixel density cannot rival that of, for example, Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Based on some sources, however, there aren’t any obvious clues it’s mediocre. The videos and images captured by RX17 Pro are amazing with heaps of contrast and detail. Now turning it around, we can see that it really separates it from its rivals – a 3D misted glass body. And sporting a grainy texture which Oppo claims are akin to “beach glass”. This outside of RX17 Pro changes color according to light condition.

Users will have no color option to choose from as Oppo RX17 Pro will be available in Stream Blue color only. However, one cutting-edge feature which isn’t closely obviously is an on-screen fingerprint scanner – hidden under a screen. The on-screen fingerprint scanner uses a photosensitive scanner which scans your finger and unlocks a handset in a jiffy.

Well, the on-screen fingerprint scanner isn’t really a major feature of RX17 Pro. Outback, you’ll see a triple camera configuration that boasts 12MP + 20MP and TOF (Time of Flight) 3D sensor. The main 12MP sensor can be switched between f/1.5 and f/2.4 very much like Samsung Galaxy S9. Besides, 20MP snapper with large 1.4um plays an unclear role and finally, a TOF 3D sensor gives a camera more advanced “depth information” for things like portraits.

Let’s finish this story off by saying, it employs Oppo’s SuperVOOC Flash Charge which we’ve already seen in Oppo Find X. This proprietary charging technology making it possible to restore juice from 0% to 100% in a couple of minutes – or to top up the battery’s capacity by 40% in around 10 minutes.

What is the catch? Most of the flagships of 2018 are backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Chipset whereas Oppo RX17 Pro being a flagship smartphone, is powered by Snapdragon 710 Chipset. The same chipset one will find in Nokia 7.1. The device runs on Oppo’s ColorOS (a variant of Android developed by Oppo) based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. It’s further upgradable or not, we’re not so sure, for now.

  • Crystal-clear sound with great loudspeakers
  • Impressive battery capacity
  • Remarkable performance
  • Tallest and bright screen

  • A little costly for its features
  • No wireless charging support
  • Few color options to choose from
  • Lacks 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Hybrid SIM Slot

Final Words

The Oppo RX17 Pro comes with plenty of premium features, without a doubt, which is grabbing an attention of tech aficionados and consumers alike. Above all, it’s having an eye-catching and mind-blowing design but it also sports camera specs you’ll only find in most expensive devices such as Apple iPhone Xs Max or Huawei P20 Pro.
