Design and Display:
At first glance, Huawei Y9 2019 looks a lot like Honor 8X in terms of design and Nova 3i in terms of the notch. It’s coming up with a sleek polycarbonate back which looks stylish – indeed, thanks to its Sapphire Blue color. Up front, you will see a 6.5-inches screen with slim side bezels and a notch – comprising a dual 13MP + 2MP front camera.
Perhaps you will miss at first glance but there is call speaker too with an LED notification light which is just directly above the notch and resides on the top bezel. The left side is covered by Dual Nano-SIM and micro SD slots whereas the right side of the handset houses a clicky and tactile volume rocker as well as the power button. And out the bottom, you will see a 3.5mm headphone jack, the main microphone, micro USB port, and loudspeaker.
Measuring a 6.5-inches screen with 2340 x 1080 Pixels resolution (higher as compared to Huawei Nova 4). The screen gives users a vibrant and great viewing experience alongside excellent viewing angles. At direct sunlight, contents are visible at least 70% brightness.
The audio quality of Y9 2019 is just amazing – even though there’s only a single loudspeaker which is placed on the bottom of the handset. It’s providing crystal-clear loud and crisp sound with great highs and minds. In short, it’ll take your enjoyment to the next level while listening to songs or watching videos.
The handset runs on 4GB/6GB of RAM – coupled with HiSilicon Kirin 710 Chipset which we have already seen in Nova 3i. Expecting different tasks such as file transfer, video streaming, playing games, media browsing or multitasking, everything run smoothly.
The fingerprint scanner also works great and open the handset in a jiffy – in less than 0.3 seconds. The Face Unlock – on the contrary, it’s having a respectable unlocking speed but it doesn’t really work while silly facial expressions. According to different tests, Huawei Y9 2019’s score is as follow:
- GeekBench 4 – 1599 (single-core),4110 (renderScript) and 5452 (Multi-Core)
- 3D Mark – 947 (SSE OpenGL ES 3.1) and 1130 (SSE Vulkan)
- AnTuTu V7 – 139899
- AndroBench: 288.3 MB/s (Sequential Read),187.39 MB/s (Sequential Write)
It’s coming with a Quad-camera configuration – not four cameras outback, the dual camera setup on both front and back. The user interface of a camera is straightforward as QR Code Scanner, moving Picture and AI camera. It’s backed by 5 main modes named Aperture, Night, Portrait, Video and Photo. Other features or modes include HDR, Light Painting, Time-Lapse, Panorama, AR lens, and Pro Mode.
According to several online sources, the quality of the captured image is quite impressive under natural lighting. It’s having a good color accuracy with a lot of details but capturing images in a low-light condition isn’t as dazzling. Interestingly, there is a night mode that can be used to amplify an image quality to be vibrant and sharper.
The front-face camera, on the other hand, comes with 3 different modes namely, Video, Photo, and Portrait. Other features are the same as its back camera.
Last but absolutely not least, Huawei Y9 2019 sports a 4000mAh non-removable battery which is the same as Huawei Mate 20 Pro. According to PC Mark’s battery test, it lasts approx. 11 hours and 42 minutes and in video testing with 50% sound and 50% brightness, it yields around 13 hours – sounds impressive. Around 2 hours would be required to get Y9 2019 charged again from 0% to 100% which is understandable given its 4000mAh massive battery.
