After a bunch of rumours and probably accurate last minutes leaks, Apple has unveiled its 2018 flagship smartphone named Apple iPhone Xs in Australia and 29 other countries whereas rest of the countries will start getting it a bit late. Apple iPhone Xs Quick Overview
A sequel of last year’s iPhone X, Apple’s latest handset “iPhone Xs” is coming with an almost bezel-less edge-to-edge display with a size of 5.8-inches alongside a wider Notch. The screen’s Technology is based on OLED and most important of all, a Super Retina is now returned in Xs. The display resolution is 2436 x 1125 Pixels – for a 458 PPI (pixel per inch) density.
The Xs is joined by Xs Max with a size of 6.5-inches Super Retina OLED screen and a little hike in resolution – 2688 x 1242 Pixels whereas PPI density of 458 is the same. The Xs is backed by Apple’s first seven nanometer A-Series Processor – A12 Bionic which goes against Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 980 Chipset announced but not yet released. The A12 Bionic is a six-core CPU out of which two core for delivering 15% faster performance and has 40% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation. The rest of the cores are for efficiency consuming around 50% less power.
Apple iPhone Xs Camera
The iPhone Xs and Xs Max both devices announced with similar cameras. The main rear sensor is 12MP with an aperture of f/1.8 – OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and a 1.4nm Pixel size. The other sensor is also 12MP (Telephoto) having 2x Optical Zoom with an aperture of f/2.4 and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). To assist video calls and selfies, a 7MP FaceTime is available with an IR camera and structured light transmitter for animojis and Face ID. Users will also be able to shoot videos at 1080p @60fps.
HDR feature aside for a short while, Apple added a new camera feature named “Smart HDR”. Plentiful images are captured almost in a second and all the different exposures, shadow levels and more. The Bokeh blurred background effect has also been improved – helped by A12 Bionic Chipset as well as there is a new depth setting to change to a level of blur in the background.
Apple iPhone Xs Battery
Apple hasn’t revealed an actual amount of battery of iPhone Xs but you’ll get 30 minutes more power time over iPhone X and almost 90 minutes more from iPhone X with Xs Max. Apple has also claimed an improvement in wireless charging but hasn’t gone into detail about how.
Other features of iPhone Xs include Dual-SIM alongside Dual-Standby Technology and LTE. The handset uses eSIM which sounds similar to iPad and Apple Watch but Chinese Audience will still be able to use traditional physical SIM. The phone has Bluetooth 5.0, high-quality speakers and stereo recording for videos.
Availability and Price
The Apple’s newly announced iPhone Xs is now available for pre-orders and will start shipping a week later on September 21. Back in 2017, Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were launched on 22 September with super-fancy iPhone X launched shortly after – around in November.
